Channel estimation for OFDM-based indoor broadband power line communication systems

State-of-the-art indoor broadband power line communications (PLC) systems use orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) signals with constellations up to 10 bits/symbol, which makes channel estimation a key aspect. This paper focuses on the initial used in payload, might be further adapted by means of decision-directed strategy. estimate has computed per-frame basis and can accomplished from preamble, header symbol (assuming that it been correctly decoded) or combination both. work proposes simple techniques for this problem derives their most appropriate parameters. They are compared linear minimum mean squared-error (LMMSE) estimator others commonly wireless scenarios considering both performance computational complexity. The factors limiting estimators based preamble symbols analyzed implications differences between PLC channels, such as absence fading, design require knowledge statistics discussed. A analysis considered is set 171 measured channels. Obtained results indicate perform better than those we provide computationally gives nearly optimum combining estimates symbols.
